Sonic Healthcare USA (SHUSA) has an immediate opening for a Chief Human Resources Officer in our Central office located in Austin, Texas.
***This is not a remote opportunity. Final candidate will be required to relocate to Austin, TX if they are not already here.***
Under the general direction of the Chief Executive Officer, the Chief Human Resources Officer for Sonic Healthcare USA, Inc. (“Sonic”) is responsible for overseeing and executing the human resources strategy in support of the overall business plan and strategic direction of the organization. Sonic employs approximately 8,000 individuals and operates in a federated business structure. Specific areas include benefits, employee services, change management, mergers and acquisitions. The Chief Human Resources Officer will also serve as a resource to the Divisions and HR leaders in the Divisions as needed.
Essential Job Duties:
  • Establish and implement HR initiatives that effectively communicate and support Sonic’s vision and values
  • Function as an executive/senior leader of Sonic Healthcare USA and serve as an advisor for human resource-related matters
  • Provide guidance to leaders and the entire management team regarding established HR laws, policies, and practices
  • Develop HR plans and strategies to support overall business objectives
  • Responsible for oversight and administration of corporate benefit plans, including self-funded health plan and 401K savings and investment plan
  • Negotiate contracts with national vendors on behalf of the Divisions, in order to be cost effective and provide consistency throughout the organization
  • Serve as a high-level resource to the Divisions regarding key organizational and management issues
  • Continue to enhance comprehensive benefit plans that are competitive and cost effective
  • Provide recommendations to the Divisions focusing on comprehensive strategic recruiting and retention plans to meet human capital needs and strategic goals
  • Ability to effectively resolve more difficult disputes using highly refined functional, partnering and leadership skills with the Divisions and legal team
  • Succession Planning
  • Talent Sourcing, Mentoring, Career Paths
  • Leverage internal Divisional transfers, identify best practices
  • Conduct wage and salary analysis

  • Reinforce a service-oriented culture focused on employee engagement, quality, employee and patient safety, service excellence, and fiscal responsibility
  • Participate in and perform due diligence on potential mergers and acquisitions

  • Bachelor’s Degree (Master’s Degree or higher preferred) and minimum of 10 years human resources experience in a leadership role
  • SPHR or SHRM-SCP Certification
  • Extensive experience in a large, complex, highly-matrixed, multi-site/multi-state organization staffed by professionals in multiple disciplines
  • Balanced experience in all HR disciplines, including but not limited to, employment, compensation and benefits, staffing and executive development, regulatory compliance, performance improvement, benefits design, and competitors survey analysis
  • Proven consultative, coaching, and persuasive skills with every level of internal and external customer, including executive and senior management, and the ability to develop solutions that fit the needs of the organization
  • Strong business and financial acumen and demonstrated comfort in interpreting data

  • Strong knowledge base of health and welfare plans, including applicable laws
  • Ability to analyze and think strategically organization-wide to react to changing business conditions; results-driven mindset and record of successful execution against goals
  • Promote sharing of knowledge and talent across the organization, encouraging knowledge sharing among Divisions
  • Experience in coaching and influencing businesses to define, develop, and drive organizational effectiveness and talent strategies that positively impact business goals
  • Sound judgment, reliable rationale and common sense
  • Ability to successfully integrate/assimilate acquired organizations, both from an implementation and change management standpoint
  • Excellent presentation capabilities
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision and deal effectively with all levels of employees and management
  • Ability to multitask and prioritize effectively
  • Organized and detail oriented
  • Travel as needed for employee engagement and to address issues identified by the Divisions; approximately 10%
