Position Summary
The Chemistry Supervisor is responsible for overseeing personnel and the performance of testing within the chemistry department. Responsibilities include working closely and communicating effectively with all hospital departments and external clients referring lab work to this facility. The incumbent is responsible for the management of analyzers and quality management activities. The incumbent is responsible for the formulation and updating of policies and procedures and documentation required to meet regulatory standards. The incumbent is responsible for assisting with laboratory testing, phlebotomy, clerical and specimen processing as needed. The incumbent must be able to troubleshoot situations and provide direction to the staff as needed. The incumbent must be self-directed and able to function with minimal supervision. Work hours can consist of sitting and standing with 60% of the time sitting. Manual dexterity and visual/auditory acuity is required for job performance. Verbal and auditory acuity to both communicate/interpret and receive test information from analyzers or via telephone is also required. Occasional lifting and/or pushing of up to 40 lb. is required. This position has exposure to body fluids and communicable disease.


Licenses/Certifications Required
ASCP or equivalent credential


Specific Educational & Skill Competencies Required
The Chemistry Supervisor must have a Bachelor of Science degree and be certified by a national Registry Accreditation for Laboratory Science. Supervisory experience is preferred, but not required. Advanced communication, analytical and testing skills are required.
