Certified Phlebotomist

We are seeking qualified, like minded Certified Phlebotomist to join our team!

The Certified Phlebotomist will perform venipuncture, skin punctures as well as all other ancillary testing competently and expediently. This position requires thorough knowledge of test requirements & assists in clinical laboratory as needed.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Verify patient information by interviewing patient; recording medical history; confirming purpose of visit.
  • Prepare patients for examination by performing preliminary physical tests; taking blood pressure, weight, and temperature; reporting patient history summary.
  • Collect data accurately and ensures that all information is entered into the patients medical record in EHR.
  • Prepare and stock examination and treatment rooms.
  • Clean and sterilize instruments.
  • Assist provider with minor office procedures.
  • Schedule Outpatient testing, Procedures or Surgeries.
  • Manage Referral process:
    • Hospital Admissions
    • Testing and Procedures
    • Pre-certification
  • Triage patient phone calls per sites protocol.
  • Process Prescription Refill requests per Physicians protocol.
  • Perform Ancillary testing: EKG, Spirometry, Cryotherapy, etc.
  • Laboratory testing may include Rapid Tests, Urinalysis, Bilirubin, Auto CBC, and Phlebotomy.
  • Review lab and test results. Provide follow up to patient per providers instructions.
  • Provide health education to the patient as needed.
  • Perform all duties in compliance with Galens clinical policies and OSHA standards.
  • Maintain clean and neat work area.
  • Active participation in process improvement efforts.
  • May be required to assist other team members based on office demands.
  • Recognize and demonstrate cost-effective measures in utilization of supplies and equipment.
  • Assure accurate and timely documentation of all patient related encounters in the medical record.
  • Other duties as assigned by manager or supervisor.

  • Understand and abide by OSHA, HIPAA & CLIA standards.

Qualifications:

Education:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Completion of a Phlebotomy program from a nationally accredited institution preferred.

Experience:

  • One year of relative Phlebotomy experience in the clinical setting is required if completion of a Phlebotomy program qualification is not met.
  • 1-3 years’ clinical Phlebotomy experience is preferred.
  • Electronic Medical Record experience preferred.

Skills/Certifications:

  • Basic Life Support certification is required.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to multi-task and work as a team player.
  • Excellent computer skills.
  • Ability to follow clinical pathways and protocols.
  • Excellent customer service skills, with the ability to handle higher-stress phone calls.
  • Knowledge of basic medical terminology.
  • Comfortable handling biological specimens.
  • Ability to accurately identify specimens.
  • Strong data entry and organizational skills.
  • High level of attention to detail.
