WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR:


UW Medical Center - Northwest has an outstanding opportunity for a CENTRAL PROCESSING SUPERVISOR . Reporting to UWMC Northwest Sterile Processing Department (SPD) manager and working closely with the perioperative materials manager and surgical services leadership team, this position is responsible for supervising the SPD staff. This position applies knowledge, skill, and experience in SPD to supervise activities of sterile processing technicians and other support staff performing routine sterile processing procedures. 24-hour responsibility and accountability for ensuring compliance with departmental or organizational policies, procedures, and defined internal controls for complete, accurate and on-time availability of sterile instrumentation, supplies and/or equipment for cases. Ensures accountability and stewardship of department resources (operational, financial, and human) in compliance with departmental standards and procedures. Responsible for work quality ensuring sterile processing protocols are followed. Coordinates schedules and assigns work. Responsible for performance evaluation and correction.

WHAT YOU’LL BE DOING:


The key responsibilities of this supervisory position include:

  • Supervises and schedules the daily activities of subordinate central sterile staff overseeing work quality and productivity. May be required to performs staff duties during short staffing or to maintain skill levels.

  • Trains subordinates on sterile processing procedures and provides daily guidance and direction to ensure participation and demonstration/documentation of competency. Develops unit schedule ensuring staffing meets supply and service needs. Coordinate in-service and educational programs for staff.

  • Consults with management on daily operations, providing input on process productivity and quality improvements. Serves as consultant or liaison to OR staff and to other departments.

  • Oversees central sterile supply inventory and space optimization. Performs routine maintenance and calibration of equipment and instruments. Identifies and troubleshoots equipment performance issues determining need for service and/or repairs.

  • Participates in creating, updating, modifying, and improving departmental processes and operational infrastructure including policy maintenance and management. Participates in decision-making on hiring, promotions, increases, discipline, and other personnel matters.

  • Assures the complete, accurate and on-time availability of sterile instrumentation, supplies and/or equipment for future cases (Pre-planning).

  • Provide leadership oversight of key instrument tracking systems (i.e. Settrax, TDOC) to manage instruments and monitor vendor compliance.


  • WHAT YOU BRING:


    Required Qualifications:

    Completion of a recognized Central Supply Technician course AND three years of technical experience involving sterilization of surgical trays, medical supplies, equipment and instruments in a hospital or institution central medical supply unit

    OR

    Minimum three (3) years of experience in Processing/Central Supply or surgical technician experience and a Minimum one (1) year lead experience

    OR

    High school graduation or equivalent AND four years of experience processing complex trays of surgical instruments and equipment

    OR

    Equivalent education/experience

    Qualified candidates may also have:

  • Certified Registered Central Service Technician (CRCST) certification or Certification Board for Sterile Processing Department (CBSPD) certification or NBSTSA’s Certified Surgical Technician certification

  • Demonstrated prior experience working with an instrument tracking system.

  • Experience working in a union environment

  • Experience in leading projects and process improvement - self-directed and highly motivated.

  • Must be able to handle a fluctuating workload.

  • This job requires ability to communicate clearly in English (verbal and written) with all stakeholders (providers, caregivers, patients, family members) for the effective treatment of patients.

  • Must be able to work various hours and locations based on business needs.
