Catastrophe Research Analyst Job at SageSure

SageSure Remote

SageSure is seeking a Catastrophe Research Analyst who has a focus in climate science and catastrophe modeling to join our Catastrophe Risk Research and Development team. In this position, you will be focused on staying current on the latest climate science trends, translating these trends into the catastrophe models, and analyzing core business exposure and catastrophe model output.

What you'd be doing:

  • Stay up to date on the latest peer reviewed, climate science literature and related news/reports and produce summary documentation on lessons learned and key takeaways.
  • Perform climate stress tests by adjusting natural peril stochastic event sets in RMS and Verisk catastrophe models to represent the range of projections from the latest climate models and improve SageSure’s view of natural catastrophe risk.
  • Conduct climate analytics and prepare insights that can be used to develop a climate change view of risk framework for multiple perils that aligns with SageSure’s business strategy.
  • Support scenario analyses that help identify areas of risk aggregation that may be more exposed in future climates.
  • Evaluate third party climate vendor solutions for potential translation to business decision making.
  • Work with the marketing team to create content that communicates SageSure’s perspective on climate change, curate data products, and advance our mission of providing stable insurance product offerings in challenged markets.
  • Prepare and cleanse exposure data and run RMS and Verisk catastrophe models on an ad hoc basis.

We're looking for someone who has:

  • Masters’ level training or greater in one of the following disciplines: climate science, meteorology, mathematics, statistics, or physics.
  • A thorough understanding of probability and statistics.
  • Experience programming in Python and/or R and analyzing and visualizing geospatial data in ArcGIS and/or QGIS.
  • Data preparation using SQL or a related database language.
  • A high degree of comfort using the Microsoft Office product suite.
  • Ability to work independently with effective communication but also be a team player.

Highly preferred candidates also have:

  • Prior experience working within a P&C insurance company or entity serving the industry in a climate-related risk modeling role for at least 3 years.
  • Ability to apply critical thinking across multiple disciplines with comfort.
  • Experience running both RMS and Verisk catastrophe models.
