Job description

Casual Hours / Term Time

Providing a high-quality service to young people while fulfilling their transportation requirements.

As a driver you’ll transport vulnerable passengers between home and school or day centres. Ensuring their personal wellbeing in a safe and appropriate manner. Making them have a comfortable journey that is professional. While, showing a caring approach.

You’ll work shifts as and when required within term time. Normally, being called the week before to discuss availability and confirm the shift. The shifts available will be 07:30-09:30 and 14:30-16:30 Monday – Friday starting at the depot on Sulgrave Road driving anywhere across the city.

What you’ll be doing

Your day begins at the depot where you are assigned your route and vehicle. With a fleet of buses ranging from 9 – 17 seaters. Once assigned you will check it is in a fit and serviceable condition by carrying out daily and weekly routine and safety checks, including fire precautions. Recording suitable information.

You’ll plan your route using a map or technology and greet your passenger assistant. Collecting vulnerable passengers who have special needs from their houses and transport to their location usually a school. While the passenger assistants support the vulnerable passengers you’ll maintain the comfort of the passengers in a safe manner and in compliance with Road Traffic Law. Following procedures and responding to emergencies or unusual situations by summoning assistance in accordance with instructions.

What you’ll need

You will hold a Full Diving Licence with D1 category and be prepared to undertake DCPC.

You’ll be flexible taking shifts when they are available and ready to answer the phone to discuss your availability for the next week. There is sometimes also short notice bookings requested.

You’ll show a sensitivity towards the needs of vulnerable people. Having a caring attitude, you’ll be able to communicate with service users, family members, school staff and passenger assistants to ensure not only the safety of your passengers but that they receive a high level of customer satisfaction.

We will also complete an enhanced DBS certificate for you.
