The Career X Paraprofessional shall provide school-to-work and career preparation assistance for the Transition programs of the Newaygo County Regional Educational Service Agency.

Qualifications

· High school graduate with significant business-related experiences (at least five years). A Bachelor’s degree with a teaching certificate is desirable, but not required.

· At least three years of human resource development experience preferred.

· Demonstrate a commitment to community service with active and recent documented involvement preferred.

· Self-sufficient and requires minimal supervision or assistance to aid in the care and education of students.

· Exhibit an ability to work and relate with students, staff, employers and the community.

· Physically capable of performing the necessary job duties.

· Able to work as a member of a team and contribute to the agency vision and goals.

· Positive leadership skills.

· Must be able to pass criminal history check.

Essential Duties

Essential duties shall include, but are not limited to:

· Assist teachers and students (individuals or small groups) with pre-employment activities, work-based learning activities, and the placement of student graduates.

· Coordinate and facilitate career readiness activities such as resume writing, interview skills, mock interviews, etc.

· Assist in the coordination and implementation of Work-Based Learning (WBL), job placement, and job shadow site visits.

· Assist teachers in preparing for new school year files, documents, class lists, equipment inventory, classroom materials and consumables.

· Assist teachers in maintaining student records.

· Assist students with registration process for the Michigan Talent Bank.

· Structure and maintain a filing system for records and reports.

· Participate in open house, career fairs, advisory meetings and transition council meetings to familiarize members of the school and community with student service activities.

Other Duties

· Act as a resource, if needed, to employees, students and the general public visiting the NC RESA.

· Possess knowledge of NC RESA’s organization, mission, and philosophy.

· Perform other duties deemed appropriate by the Supervisor of Special Education and/or the Transition Coordinator.

The Career X Paraprofessional shall be directly accountable to the Supervisor of Special Education and the Transition Coordinator and shall demonstrate commitment to the mission of the Newaygo County RESA through:

· Must be able to communicate effectively (language skills).

· Must be able to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions (reasoning skills).

· Understands the Multi-Tier Systems of Supports and provide Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports.

Work Environment

General office setting; the noise level in this position varies.

· position covered under NCISD Service Staff/MESPA Master Agreement

· evaluated annually by the Supervisor of Special Education
