Mission Contribution: To meet the mission of the agency by engaging youth and adults with barriers employment assistance and training that will lead to self-sufficiency.

Function: To provide training and guidance in order to prepare youth and adults for long-term careers.

Essential Functions:

1. Provide world-class customer service including effective communication with internal and external customers.

2. Conducts classes in a group setting on Pre-Employment Transition Services (PRE-ETS) including Social skills training, Job Readiness Training, Self-Advocacy, Financial Education, Life Skills, and College Preparation.

3. Conducts Career Assessments and supports Job Exploration Services in order to help students choose a realistic career path.

4. Assist with college and workplace tours in order to provide students with a first-hand view of local career opportunities as well as glimpse of college life and fields of study that are available.

5. May have to drive a multi-passenger van in order to transport youth to activities when needed.

6. Assist with networking with local employers and agencies to carve out paid and unpaid work experience opportunities for students, completes payroll documents, secures timesheets and evaluates work performance.

7. Communicates with school representatives, working with vocational rehabilitation to develop new service opportunities.

8. Provides job retention services including job coaching for those needing extra support to learn new job duties or to complete employment paperwork.

9. Completes case notes and progress reports for all active participants and provides updates to referring agents a minimum of monthly.

10. Submits billing for services along with supporting documentation to counselors and department director/VP accurately in a timely manner.

11. Networks with community agencies to locate outside referral sources that provide services needed by participants that are not provided by Goodwill. (For example, housing, food, child care, mental health, counseling, drug treatment.)

12. Meets or exceeds individual and program goals and performance measures as established by the funding source, grant and/or supervisor.

13. Works as a team to assist or fill in for other employment specialists including creating resumes or job development and placement assistance for youth and adults with or without disabilities as needed.

14. Provides job development and placement assistance for youth and adults with disabilities as needed.

15. Maintains consumer files accurately, updating and reviewing open files a minimum of monthly.

16. Ensures confidentiality of participant records and private information, keeping in compliance with organization’s guidelines, policies and CARF regulations.

17. Enters in demographic and service information into the Goodwill database during the month of service.

18. Communicates regularly with supervisor and reports progress, problems and works as a team to help participants meet their goals and achieve program outcomes.

19. Stays current on employment and special population issues and best practices by participating in on-going training and professional development opportunities including seminars, conferences, in-house training and through personal research.

20. Regular attendance and adherence to hours of operation, as outlined in Goodwill’s policy, is required.

21. Acts as a positive role model for employees in all aspects of professional performance.

22. Observes all safety procedures and personnel policies and ensures compliance by participants.

23. Other duties as assigned.

Skills, knowledge and abilities: (these are required to enable job holder to perform the essential functions of the job).

1. Must be able to work a flexible schedule including early mornings and late afternoons as needed.

2. Must be able to interact cordially and productively with a variety of people.

3. Must be able to market Goodwill and explain the mission to the general public.

4. Must be able to take initiative and make decisions with little supervision.

5. Must possess excellent organizational and communication skills.

6. Must be able to keep information confidential.

7. Must be able to maintain an effective working relationship with, and among employees.

8. Ability to function in a hectic work environment with occasional periods of high stress.

9. Must obtain and retain First Aid/CPR/AED certification and respond to and manage a first aid, choking or sudden cardiac arrest emergencyat the worksite according to Goodwill Safety Policies & Procedures.

10. Must be able to drive a multi-passenger van to transport participants to activities.

11. Must have a valid driver’s license for at least 3 years, liability automobile insurance and be insurable through the agency’s insurance carrier.

12. Must be at least 21 years of age.

Experience and Education Requirements:

· Bachelor’s degree plus two years of closely related experience preferred.

· Five years of closely related experience may be substituted for a degree.

· Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel and Outlook.

· Supervisory, teaching and training experience preferred

· Must be able to successfully complete a soft skills trainer program (Smart Work Ethics)

· Experience in networking with employers and working with people with barriers to obtaining and maintaining employment preferred

Physical Requirements:

· Must be able to use hands, fingers and wrists, repetitively while using computer keyboard.

Working Conditions/Hazards:

Adequately lighted and ventilated building. Frequent travel throughout the Gulf Coast area.

Pay: From $17.00 per hour
