Serves the Emergency Department unit as a receptionist and performs all clerical duties as appropriate to the ED, and in compliance with hospital policy. In addition, observes and monitors the central cardiac monitoring system of the patients placed on cardiac monitoring in the ED. Able to recognize abhorrent rhythms or changes of status in relation to cardiac rhythms and vital signs and communicates those to the Registered Nurse/Provider.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS :

EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, AND/OR LICENSURE:

1. High School Graduate or G.E.D.

2. Current BLS (Basic Life Support). Successful completion of rhythm class and able to identify lethal or potentially lethal cardiac rhythms.

3. Crisis prevention training.

EXPERIENCE:

1. Good communication skills…telephone etiquette, able to interact with others in a courteous, friendly, and helpful manner.

2. Able to multi-task, and maintain confidentiality.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS :

EXPERIENCE:

1. Knowledge of common medical terms.

2. Experience in clerical work preferred…knowledge of computer applications, able to type, use of the computer proficiently, able to operate other standard office equipment.

1. Provides secretarial/clerical support and maintains daily tasks as directed my manager/director, such as ordering office supplies, maintaining supplies for copiers, and maintenance of equipment, preparing packets (death, trauma), updating call sheets, maintains the communication book, forms, etc.

2. Answers telephone, receives relevant information and delivers messages in a timely manner to appropriate staff and co-workers via electronic email, fax, phone or fax.

3. Able to identify basic cardiac rhythms and normal vital signs, and communicates appropriately any changes in either to a registered nurse or provider. Completes cardiac monitor training annually.

4. Assists with the clerical aspects of admission, transfer, and discharge of patients.

5. Maintains confidentiality in all interactions.

6. Provides positive customer service to patients, visitors, staff and others.

7. Adheres to departmental policies, procedures, and regulations.

8. Completes any assigned data entry/collection for performance improvement and quality.

9. Assists with any special projects or assignments.

10. Assists with emergency processes that are indicative to the ED, such as, STEMI process, trauma process, bed requests, consult request, transfer process, workers comp. process, etc.

1. Able to bend, stoop, reach and be capable of normal rotation, standing and walking for an 8-10 hour shift.

2. Able to lift 40 pounds from floor to waist.
