Starting wage: $31,815-$42,985 annualized (Schedule 40, Lane Z)

Purpose Statement

The Campus Safety Coordinator (CSC) assists schools in providing intervention services for at-risk students by building positive relationships with students and leveraging those relationships to fully engage students in the learning environment.


The primary focus of the CSC is to work collaboratively with staff and students to promote a positive learning climate by overseeing the safety of the school campus, monitoring attendance, enforcing truancy prevention programs and disciplinary policies, reporting pertinent information to appropriate school administrators, and supporting administrative and/or campus activities.


The CSC will consistently promote the expectation of high achievement for all students by providing preventive support and is responsive to referrals for students who are experiencing personal, social, or academic barriers to regular school attendance.


This position reports to the Principal or administrative designee


Minimum Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Ability to pass a fingerprint and criminal background check
  • First Aid Certificate obtained within 3 months from date of hire
  • Speak, read, write, and present professionally, analyze and interpret English written and verbal communications
  • Work with limited supervision
  • Demonstrate professional workplace etiquette and represent the school in a professional manner
  • Communicate effectively and efficiently with diverse groups of people while maintaining confidentiality and positive working relationships with co-workers, students, parents, and other district employees


Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working with student groups, community support agencies, school districts, community outreach agencies or related organizations
  • Previous work experience in security or law enforcement, or related field
  • Strong problem solving, conflict de-escalation, and interpersonal skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and experienced using data-based software
  • Spanish or other language proficiency, including ability to read, write, speak, and understand
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to build supportive relationships with students


Essential Functions


  • Support a school-based approach to promoting the importance of regular attendance through implementation of appropriate strategies and coordination of referrals to appropriate resources and student support services
  • Support appropriate interventions for students whose attendance needs improvement by identifying and reducing barriers to regular attendance and developing creative strategies to re-engage students
  • Adhere to and apply school, district, and legal policies and procedures and promote an environment conducive to student achievement and well-being
  • Assist school personnel with maintaining the safety of the school community and facilities and assist with the supervision of assigned school activities
  • Monitor school security systems such as security video, alarm systems, locks/gates, and doors to minimize and eliminate potential security issues and unsafe conditions
  • Communicate information regularly with relevant school personnel and students foster strong connections to the school and coordinate efforts of improving attendance and maintaining a safe learning and working environment
  • Implement intervention protocols for students for the purpose of addressing academic and school attendance issues, alleviating isolation, identifying support resources, and providing referrals to counseling or administrative staff
  • Perform record keeping of attendance, identify students with attendance concerns, prepare attendance reports and perform other clerical functions
  • Collaborate with administrators, students, parents, and other support teams to implement prevention and intervention strategies to improve attendance rates
  • Establish appropriate relationships with students, teachers, and administrators to collaboratively resolve attendance problems
  • Identify visual or aural cues such as facial expressions, body language, physical surroundings, noises, etc., to accurately identify potential areas of concern or inappropriate activity
  • Refer incidents to appropriate site personnel (e.g. injuries, altercations, suspicious activities, etc.) under the direction of administrative guidelines
  • Inform students of school policies and enforcement procedures to ensure understanding and the potential consequences of attendance policy violations
  • Monitor student behavior before, during and after school, such as in the lunchroom, classrooms with substitutes, detention and hallways to ensure student compliance to established regulations and maintaining a safe and positive learning environment
  • Prepare confidential and non-confidential documentation (e.g. student information, interventions, incident and activity reports, correspondence, security logs, reports, etc.) to document activities, provide support to students and/or to convey information
  • Respond to emergency situations to address immediate safety concerns
  • Work with other safety personnel (e.g. SRO and other campus safety staff) to help maintain a safe learning and working environment
  • Participate in meetings, workshops, seminars, as assigned for the purpose of conveying and/or or gathering information required to perform functions
  • Work under limited supervision, utilizing time-management and prioritization strategies, accurately processing detailed information and meeting deadlines
  • Adapt to changing work priorities and work with frequent interruptions, as required.
  • Speak, read, write, analyze, understand and follow written and verbal communication in English including grammar and punctuation; listen to, and understand information and ideas presented verbally or in writing
  • Maintain regular and predictable attendance to fulfill job requirements efficiently and effectively
  • Maintain a visible, accessible presence on campus for the purpose of supporting attendance policies and increasing student awareness of support services available
  • As needed, roll, push, pull, bend, reach, stoop, and lift up to 30 pounds.
  • Other duties as assigned


Working Environment


The usual and customary methods of performing the job’s functions require the following physical demands: some lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling, some stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling and significant fine finger dexterity. Generally, the job requires 10% sitting, 40% walking, and 50% standing. The job is performed under some temperature variations, due to indoor and outdoor activities, and in a generally clean and healthy environment.
