Borton-Lawson is seeking a Highway Drafter for any of our office locations. The ideal candidate will draft detailed construction drawings, topographical profiles, and related maps and specifications used in planning and construction of civil engineering projects. Work will include supporting the Highway and Bridge engineers in the Transportation group.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Includes all or some of the following - Other Duties may be assigned:

• Reviews rough sketches, drawings, specifications, and other engineering data received from Engineers.
• Plots maps and charts showing profiles and cross-sections, indicating relation of topographical contours and elevations to building, retaining walls, tunnels, overhead power lines and other structures
• Utilizes engineering software including Bentley Open Roads and Bentley Connect Edition Software to develop and prepare drawings.
• Drafts detailed drawings of structures and installations such as roads, culverts, erosion control measures, cross sections, and sign details.
• Prepares site grading and placement of basic erosion and sedimentation control measures
• Proficiency with cut/fill balance grading design in Bentley software suite.
• Prepares highway drawings, including maintenance and protection of traffic plans
• Maintains good knowledge of governmental regulations, codes and ordinances and applies them to plans as needed.

Required Skills:

• An Associate Degree in related field and 5 or more years relevant experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience
• A Bachelor’s degree in appropriate area of design preferred
• Experience in AutoCAD 2010 or higher Bentley software suite
• Proficiency with Microsoft applications, Excel and Word
• Perform independently with sound judgment and decisiveness
• Ability to estimate and coordinate work effort and schedule requirement. Adapt to
• Varying client generated schedule requirements and deadlines
