General Description
The Buyer III is responsible to work with the Materials Manager to purchase raw materials, parts and supplies for operations, administration and janitorial departments.
Essential Duties
  • Order raw material, parts and supplies for manufacturing, administrative, and janitorial departments
  • Track purchase orders through the ERP system for raw materials, parts and supplies
  • Update ERP system with cost and vendor information and changes, including inventory purchase orders
  • Establish, negotiate and maintain long term formalized and documented contracts/supply agreements with MRO suppliers
  • Assist with the selection of vendors for professional services. Negotiate and maintain service contracts
  • Help negotiate pricing for billet. Facilitate the purchase of billet from suppliers
  • Develop strong partnerships with suppliers, establish metrics and and track performance
  • Monitor all open purchase orders to evaluate on-time delivery by suppliers
  • Support Engineering projects and new product development introductions
  • Negotiate and maintain energy costs for all Tubelite facilities
  • Contract with select vendors for annual purchase agreements
  • Create and maintain future buy contracts for customers
  • Identify and expedite purchase part shortages
  • Resolve complaints and problems with purchase orders, obtain RMA
  • Problem solves using root cause analysis for late sales orders. Recommend corrective actions and report findings to the Misery Team
  • Evaluate and help determine inventory and safety stock levels for parts and materials
  • Assign codes for cycle counting frequency. Maintain ABC codes for all items
  • Execute annual inventory counts accurately at all facilities
  • Help hire, train and supervise other non-exempt team members
  • Assist with the development and management of the Materials Department budget
  • Participate as a member of Apogee's Corporate Purchasing Committee
Position Requirements
  • Bachelor's Degree in Purchasing, Accounting, Supply Chain, Business Administration or related field
    OR recognized equivalent in education and experience, required
  • Minimum of 5 years of purchasing or 7 years of supply chain experience, required
  • Advanced Skill Level in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, required
  • Previous experience with J.D. Edwards, SAP or other Enterprise Resources Planning (ERP) systems, required
  • Ability to travel up to 20% of the time.
