What is a Buyer?
This role is within our Contracts and Procurement Department in our Enterprise Support Services group which supports organization-wide procurement.
What does a Buyer Do?
  • Plan, schedule and perform the bidding and purchase of standard stock and non-stock items to meet the work schedules of organizational unit
  • Maintain optimal inventory levels to support operations which includes determining the Economic Reorder Quantities and Safety Stock Levels
  • Prepare reports to show projected inventory value and volumes, order spend and service levels
  • Work with Engineering and Operations department to ensure safe and appropriate materials are qualified which have adequate and dependable supply sources
  • Process, place, transmit and follow-up on individual purchase orders and provide resolution to accounting and vendor non-compliance issues
  • Proactively monitor inventory and communicate with business units to understand demands, resolve issues and ensure requirements are being met
  • Develop relationships with vendors and work with them to attain competitive prices and work though issues with materials or deliveries
  • Identify, select and qualify the best suppliers in the industry
  • Provide assistance with storeroom administration as needed
  • Review and update purchasing practices as required
  • Focus on process improvement and innovation
What does it take to be a Buyer?
Required:
  • Associate’s Degree in Business Administration, Supply Chain Management or related field and five years of experience in a Buyer, Supply Chain Management, Procurement, Logistics or related role
  • Ability to effectively coordinate multiple activities with attention to detail
  • Ability to read and understand Operation Work Plans and Engineering Specifications
  • Ability to work autonomously after initial training period, showing a high degree of initiative, self-motivation, and excellent work ethic
  • Exceptional analytical capability as well as excellent spreadsheet skills
  • Excellent organizational, verbal and written communication skills
  • Analytical approach with excellent negotiating skills to secure the best prices according to market conditions and budget constraints
  • Valid driver’s license
Preferred:
  • Bachelors or Master’s Degree (in aforementioned fields)
  • Ten+ years of related experience
  • Supply Chain Certifications such as CPIM, CSCA, CSCP or CPSM
