The full-time position of Accounting & HR Manager is responsible for the detailed management of Northern Lights Hockey, LLC (NLH) financials and human resources as it relates to the Dubuque Fighting Saints, the Northern Lights Hockey Foundation, and future ownership interests.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
  • Detailed accounting for all financial reports including Profit & Loss Statement, Balance Sheet, General Ledger, and Cash Flow
  • Completion of monthly financials by the 15th day of the following month
  • Creation and implementation of historical and pro-forma analysis as specified by President and Partners, as well as preparation of reports for future partners and investors
  • Assist in the development of fiscal year budget with President, Managing Partner, and Hockey Operations Staff, set up in Quickbooks, review and monitor budget monthly
  • Verify, code, and enter all account payables and receivables using QuickBooks, entering adjusting journal entries, printing checks, bank reconciliations, updating relevant spreadsheets, deposit checks/cash in bank on a regular basis
  • Coordinate financial reporting from ticketing and merchandise systems and maintain relationship with third-party credit card processing companies
  • Count and verify cash in safe after every game night. Update game day reporting spreadsheets, deposit money in bank and set up cash/coin for next game along with cash bags for box office, 50/50 raffles, and occasional jersey auctions
  • Review all sponsorship contracts, set up invoicing schedule, track all trade, and update account allocation spreadsheet for the season
  • Submit required QuickBooks reports to Honkamp for timely filing of sales, use and income taxes for all NLH companies while ensuring that NLH is complying with all federal, state, and local tax laws.
  • Administration of Foundation including 50/50 raffles, payments to winners and sponsors, submit sales and withholding tax reports, and payment of invoices using Quickbooks
  • Submit information for end of calendar year 1099 Forms, W-2 Forms, and W-2 G Forms
  • Complete Balance Sheet account reconciliations at end of fiscal year and calendar year
  • Administration of all new employee paperwork and set up for payroll on a bi-monthly basis ensuring that organization complies with federal, state, and local legal requirements
  • Ensure that monthly sales commission reports, as filed by sales staff, are accurate
  • Review and update employee handbook and policies, ensuring compliance with labor laws and regulations
  • Document and meet with employees regarding any disciplinary actions as outlined in the Employee Handbook
  • Administration of employee’s health, dental and vision insurance plans
  • Administration of General Liability, D&O/Emp Practices and Worker’s Compensation plans for company
  • Assist customers with ticket and merchandise purchases as needed and provide outstanding customer service to Dubuque Fighting Saints fans
  • Oversee telephones, copier, and computer systems, contact IT for repairs, order supplies
  • Work traditional and non-traditional hours including game nights, special events and community appearances. This will include some nights, weekends, and holidays.

Requirements for the Business Manager Position:
  • College Degree in Accounting, Finance or Business Administration
  • Knowledge of Human Resource Administration
  • Proficient in QuickBooks, Excel/Google Spreadsheets, Word
  • 3 -5 years of previous experience in the field of Accounting

  • All other duties as assigned by Team President or Managing Partner of Northern Lights Hockey

Compensation and Benefits:
  • Salary Range $35,000 - $45,000
  • No sales commissions are included in compensation
  • Health, Dental, Vision insurance – portion paid by company
  • 120 hours of Paid Time Off (PTO) each fiscal year starting July 1st through June 30th
