The Bulk Unloader/DAF Operator will report to the Production Manager. The Bulk Unloader/DAF Operator will be responsible for operating and maintaining the wastewater treatment system. This position will treat the wastewater generated by the plant to be compliant for discharge to the City of Charlotte Water working to constantly improve site safety, process capability and production volume while maintaining and improving quality standards.

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Works closely and communicates with production teams to ensure proper water treatment operation.
  • Take a monthly inventory of chemicals that will be used to operate the DAF
  • Maintain collection of monthly water samplings to ensure water is clear and in spec and company remains in permit compliance.
  • Performs necessary and preventative maintenance to the wastewater system
  • Maintain and clean wastewater system and the surrounding environment to maintain its integrity.
  • Monitor water treatment processes and inspect equipment regularly
  • Monitor and maintain the daily flow readings using the flow link software.
  • Work with outside vendor to schedule and maintain consistent DAF sludge tank removal.
  • Be able to start and stop the process and equipment safely and without supervision.
  • Safely handles and stores chemicals
  • Complete daily checklist for flume operation documenting to maintain cleanliness, discharge flow (GPM) gallons per minute dropped to city, etc.
  • Complete daily Tank 4-9 DMAPA scrubber operation checklist as well as dropping and recharging the scrubber.
  • Complete monthly pH sampling.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Excellent understanding of pH and what affects it
  • Excellent organizational skills and strong attention to detail.
  • Excellent analytical skills
  • Clear and effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.
  • Be able to perform basic mathematical calculations
  • Ability to read and understand manuals and maintain proper records.
  • Ability to collaborate with others and work independently
  • Ability to identify key details
  • Ability to troubleshoot and solve problems

Education and Experience:

  • 3 – 5 years’ experience in production/process area of specialty chemical products
  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemical, Electrical, Mechanical, or Industrial Engineering strongly preferred
  • Understanding of the chemistry of plant generated wastewater.
  • DOT training
  • RCRA training
  • Plant Operation knowledge
  • Understanding of wastewater flow, equalization tanks, sludge tank, etc.
  • Internship in related field highly desired.

Physical Requirements:

  • Located partially in an office and partially in a chemical packaging and shipping laboratory environment.
  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Exposure to various chemicals and compounds.
  • Operate a forklift
  • Must be able to lift up to 55 pounds; squatting and kneeling.
