Location: Dillsboro, NC (various locations along GSMR track line)
Compensation: $14-20 per hour, DOE, and Certification(s)
Job Summary:
The Bridge Supervisor supervises the construction, modification or repair of a railroad structure. All repairs or modifications to a railroad structure that affect the load-carrying capacity shall be performed under the direction of a competent Railroad Bridge Supervisor. Track workers lay, repair, and maintain tracks and bridges for standard gauge railroad equipment used in regular railroad service or plant yards.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Bridge Supervisor

  • Working closely with the Railroad’s bridge engineering company to develop a proper repair plan for a structure defect.
  • Compliance with 49CFR part 214 Roadway Workplace Safety
  • Supervise construction, modifications or repair work on railroad structures
  • Read and interpret plans and specifications for the construction, modification or repair work on railroad structures.
  • Authorize or restrict the operation of railroad traffic over a structure according to its immediate condition or state of repair to protect railroad operations.

Track Worker

  • Ability to operate or willing to learn track related equipment:
  • Ability to operate and use related tools such as chain saws, pole saws, and rail saws.
  • Assists in performing all phases of railroad track and bridgework.
  • Responsible for instating and ensuring compliance to a track equipment and highway vehicle preventative maintenance program.
  • Performs or assists with hydraulic, electrical, and mechanical repairs and preventative maintenance as necessary to track equipment and MOW department highway vehicles.
  • Strict compliance to GSMR procedures/rules, roadway worker safety program and operating rules.
  • Work as needed and perform all other duties as assigned.

Requirements:Education, Skill and Work Experience Requirements:

  • Valid US Driver License.
  • CDL preferred or the ability to obtain with DOT medical card.
  • Must be able to communicate effectively in both written and spoken English.
  • Must be able to interact effectively with coworkers and customers.
  • Must be able to pass a background check, DMV record check, pre-employment drug screen, and WorkSteps physical evaluation.
  • Ability to work closely with others and be able to comprehend and carry out complex tasks.
  • Experience with operation and repair of hand and power tools as well as tractors and heavy equipment.
  • Experience with routine servicing and maintenance of off and on-road vehicles and equipment.
  • Experience with working safely with crew members as a team.

Work Environment:

  • Work on and off the train in varied terrain in all weather during both daylight and dark hours.
  • Must be available for duty: weekends, nights, and off hours in the event of track emergencies and/or special or emergency inspections
  • Ability to perform continuous heavy labor in extreme weather conditions
  • Varied schedule throughout the year dictated by train schedule and maintenance operations.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $14.00 - $20.00 per hour
