Position: Braille Signage Specialist

Classification: F.L.S.A. Non-Exempt

Reports to: Technology Coordinator

Position Purpose/Summary:

Manage the Braille Signage Initiative to create and produce braille signage and plaques for Overbrook School for the Blind, organizations and community businesses and to teach students how to create and produce braille signage. Additionally, the Braille Signage Specialist will work with program coordinators and the students to include and train students in all aspects of the Braille Signage Initiatives.

Design lay-outs using Vector-Based software such as Adobe Illustrator and use software to convert print to braille.

Expected Hours of Work: 10-month position with possibility of summer employment

Essential Functions:

● Assist in training and supervising student assistants and volunteers.

● Prepare materials for production

● Proofread braille to ensure accuracy

● Maintain an orderly appearance of the braille signage center.

● Order and maintain supplies for signage production to maintain inventory of necessary supplies

● Perform daily and weekly equipment maintenance

● Work with cleaning chemicals and inks

● Use small tools, including calipers to adjust equipment and measure materials

● Assist with the supervision of students.

● Manage entire process from receiving orders for signage to design development, production and fulfillment of orders

● Ensure quality control for accuracy of signage

● Operate computer and 3D printer

● Maintain records of signage ordered and produced.

● Assist with the distribution of signage.

● Other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

● High School diploma.

● working knowledge of computer software.

● ability to lift up to 50 lbs. to chest height occasionally.

● good communications skills.

● good organizational skills.

● positive interpersonal skills.

● experience with Adobe illustrator and other Vector-based software preferred.

● Experience with digital design preferred

● Experience working in a sign shop is a plus

Physical Requirements:

● Other: good hand strength to manipulate ink bottles

● Must be able to lift 50 lbs. minimum

● Employees are subject to accidents and/or injuries, which may be incurred during the performance of the essential functions of the position. Work is primarily indoors but some outdoor activities may be required.
