Job Purpose

The Cashier will support operations by performing all register tasks, while maintaining great customer service.

Position Description

  • Manages cash transactions with customers
  • Scan goods and collect payments
  • Issue receipts, refunds, and change
  • Resolve customer complaints, guide them, and provide relevant information
  • Greet customers when entering or leaving the bookstore
  • Maintain clean and tidy checkout areas
  • Pleasantly deal with customers to ensure satisfaction
  • Maintain files and documentation thoroughly and accurately, in accordance with company policy and accepted accounting practices
  • Consult with MBS or current systems provider for any issues/discrepancies to resolve for inventory purposes, keeping track of any issues
  • Maintain the store appearance and cleanliness, consulting with custodial staff for cleaning of floors, windows, and trash pickup
  • Assist customers on the sales floor, phone, e-mail, and website
  • Assist with processing and stocking of books purchased through book buyback as necessary
  • Assist with annual bookstore inventory
  • Other duties as assigned
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Ability to work with minimal supervision and be able to prioritize and perform multiple tasks to support departmental goals
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills; pleasant telephone demeanor; ability to relate helpfully and tactfully to a variety of people and questions
  • Ability to work well under pressure (enrollment & buyback)
  • Must possess accurate keyboarding skills and be able to enter data efficiently and accurately
  • Attention to detail and mathematical skills
Position Qualifications and/or Education

Minimum Qualifications and/or Education

  • High school diploma or GED Equivalent
  • One (1) year of working experience in retail, cashier, or sales
  • Basic PC knowledge and familiarity with electronic equipment (e.g., cash register, scanners, etc.)
  • Entry level ability in Word and Excel software

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand, talk, hear, walk, sit, and occasionally push or lift items. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

  • Hearing ability sufficient to assist customers.
  • Ability to lift 25 lbs.
  • Visual ability sufficient to perform accounting procedures and make correct change at cash register.
Work Schedule

Up to 29 hours per week. Must be able to work a variable schedule to meet operational needs. May require evening and weekend hours.
