Job Purpose: The Bookkeeper at the Neighborhood Center of West Volusia (NHCWV) is responsible for providing accounting support to major financial / accounting areas including accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger accounting, and payroll processing.

Duties and Responsibilities

Accounting

  • Process all incoming checks and record in accounting software; including time stamp all checks and ensure they are coded to correct account and class.
  • Reconcile all agency bank accounts and troubleshoot any discrepancies in reconciliations.
  • Reconcile all agency credit card accounts and troubleshoot any discrepancies in reconciliations.
  • Serve as back-up to the Chief Financial Officer for accounts payable check processing as well as payroll processing.
  • Assist Chief Financial Officer in performing end-of-month closing of books and preparation of monthly financial statements.
  • Assist Chief Financial Officer with external independent audit, preparation, and executions of agency annual budget.

Rents Receivable

  • Post tenant payments by recording cash, money orders, and credit card / PayPal transactions.
  • Post revenues by verifying and entering transactions from lock boxes.
  • Update receivables by totaling unpaid invoices.
  • Maintain records and prepares regular Rent Aging Report.
  • Verify validity of account discrepancies with Case Managers and tenants.
  • Verify tenancy and rental amounts with Rental Change Forms submitted by case managers.
  • Work closely with case managers to ensure timely and accurate reporting of Rent Receivables.

Grants Management

  • Assist Grants Director monthly by providing detailed payroll reports and expense reports for accurate invoicing.

Administrative

  • Monthly filing of invoices.
  • Assist with monthly acknowledgment of donor gifts and providing donor reports to Chief Development Officer.

Education: High School Diploma or General Educational Development (GED) certificate. Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or Finance (preferred).

Experience

  • Minimum 1 year QuickBooks experience.
  • Technical knowledge of accounting regulations, policies and procedures.
  • Strong computer skills including accounting databases, Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, and Outlook).
  • Detail and deadline oriented.
