The City of Lake Worth Beach invites qualified individuals to apply for the position of Billing Specialist.

This is a Full-Time, Non-Exempt position based on a 40-hour work week with an hourly range of $19.64 – 24.56. The position is part of the Public Employees Union (PEU) collective bargaining agreement. The individual in this position will work at Utilities Customer Service Building located at 120 N Federal Hwy, Lake Worth Beach, FL 33460.

SUMMARY:

Under limited supervision, this position performs advanced, complex clerical work in support of the Utilities Customer Service Department.

ESSENTAIL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provides expertise in multiple functional areas.
  • Assist Supervisor to coordinate and assign the day-to-day workflow of the Utilities Customer Service Department.
  • Assists in resolving complex customer service issues.
  • Assists with training new hires.
  • Receives inquiries from customers, contractors, and other city departments by telephone, email, fax, or in person.
  • Answers customer requests or inquiries concerning services and billing. Verifies customer account and active services using various databases and software applications.
  • Troubleshoots customer relations and billing problems; handles and resolves customer complaints; responds to customer inquiries; prepares related correspondence.
  • Review and update work orders and meter readings for billing.
  • Process new service applications and generate applicable work orders.
  • Apply basic accounting skills and works with finance department, utility accounting and the account management team to ensure accurate transition recording.
  • Identifies opportunities for improvement through measurable process improvements.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to collect, organize, analyze, and disseminate significant amounts of information with attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Process payments as needed.
  • Work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Other duties as assigned.

  • Advanced Microsoft Office skills. Data entry/10 key. Naviline a plus.
  • Ability to work in a professional office setting.
  • Skill in the use of personal computers with minimum supervision.
  • Ability/willingness to create and support a safe work environment.
  • Performs other duties within the Customer Service Division as may be assigned.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

Graduation from High School or equivalent, plus (3) years’ experience in billing and customer service position performing the above skills and knowledge. Bilingual a plus.
