The Oregon Department of Corrections is looking to temporarily fill a vacancy to work with AIC’s coming into custody at our Intake Center. This exciting employment opportunity works within the Coffee Creek Correctional Facility Intake Center in Wilsonville, Oregon. This opening is available to current State of Oregon employees and MUST receive current supervisor’s authorization to apply. This recruitment will be used to establish a list of qualified applicants and will be used to fill future vacancies.
A snapshot of daily work is primarily focused on completing mental health assessments, including diagnosis according to the DSM 5-TR. Other tasks may include screening new intakes, suicidal risk assessments and safety planning, and attending multidisciplinary team meeting, triaging client needs, and brief crisis support.
This is a temporary position: a position established in either administratively or an agency’s budget for a workload need to be reviewed every six months. We are looking for applicants that are interested in working from 8-40 hours a week.
The mission of the Oregon Department of Corrections (DOC) is to promote public safety by holding offenders accountable for their actions and reducing the risk of future criminal behavior. DOC provides several levels of mental health treatment along with individualized case management. Behavioral health services are targeted to Adults in Custody (AIC) with severe or persistent mental illness. Short-term services are available to AICs who are not mentally ill, but who show high suicide potential, or who are experiencing other emotional distress.
What does this job do?
This position identifies, according to specific criteria, all mentally ill and developmental disabled (DD) AICs within the institution, coordinate regular contact with AICs to conduct mental status examinations, suicide assessments, develop treatment interventions, behavior plans and risk management plans and provide crisis services.

These positions:
  • Perform work inside an adult prison;
  • Have contact with adults in custody during treatment/consultation, at times out of visual range of security staff;

Required Skills
The equivalent of one year of full-time experience (1,920 hours), which may include applicable internships, of the experience which demonstrates the competencies noted in the Qualifications and Required Skills sections.

NOTE: To be qualified as a Qualified Mental Health Professional (OAR 309-032-0450(26)) you must have:
  • a Graduate degree in psychology; OR
  • a Bachelor's degree in nursing and be licensed by the State of Oregon; OR
  • a Graduate degree in social work; OR
  • a Graduate degree in a behavioral science field; OR
  • a Graduate degree in recreation, art, or music therapy; OR
  • a Bachelor's degree in occupational therapy and be licensed by the State of Oregon; AND HAVE
  • education and experience which demonstrates the competencies to identify precipitating events; gather histories of mental and physical disabilities, alcohol and drug use, past mental health services and criminal justice contacts; assess family, social and work relationships; conduct a mental status examination; document a multi axial DSM diagnosis; write and supervise a treatment plan, conduct a comprehensive mental health assessment; and provide individual, family, and/or group therapy within the scope of their training.
It is highly desirable to have a Master’s degree in Psychology, Behavioral Science or similar field.

Working Conditions
This position is in Wilsonville at the Coffee Creek Intake Center. You will work in close contact with adults in custody in the institution setting and may be exposed to hostile situations or incidents. May be exposed to chemicals, radiation, communicable disease, or other hazards inherent in a health care facility and correctional setting. You will perform work inside a 24/7 facility, shifts may vary to include early shifts, late shifts, and weekends. You will have contact with adults in custody during treatment/consultation, at times out of visual range of security staff. You will be exposed to adults in custody that may become physically and/or verbally abusive and requires vigilance and awareness.
Requirements for Employment
You must be able to pass a Criminal Justice Information Systems (CJIS) fingerprint-based background check and maintain CJIS eligibility. Due to CJIS requirements related to system access, the following convictions are likely to result in being disqualified for this position: felony convictions, computer theft, identify theft and fraud. CJIS clearance is done at the conditional job offer.
