Reinhardt University is currently accepting applications for an Assistant Director of Media and Public Relations.
Position Summary

The Assistant Director, Media and Public Relations manages and oversees the daily operations of positive media outreach and institution-level public relations in support of the University’s marketing and communications initiatives.

Job Description*

Typical duties include but are not limited to:

  • Generates and maintains a strong local, regional, state, and national public presence for the University.
  • Maintains effective relationships with media sources to increase airtime and print space for university news.
  • Cultivates expert sources within the University to help promote the faculty, staff, and programs on campus. Develops and conducts media training with university expert sources.
  • Directs and assists with the creation and management of social media strategy and content development. Trains and oversees all social media content creators across the University.
  • Coordinates media access to campus and provides media management for special events.
  • Writes and edits materials for a variety of sources including website media, weekly newsletter, social media, press statements, articles, and reports.
  • Creates visual assets (photography, audio, and video) for web, social media, and media.
  • Establishes performance goals and measures to evaluate the success of assigned areas of responsibility.
  • Participates in formulating and implementing policies and procedures.

Other Duties:

  • Other job-related duties as assigned.
  • Represents the organization at various promotional events and business/community meetings.
  • Helps maintain editorial calendar.

Required Qualifications:*

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in an appropriate area of specialization.
  • Four years of professional full-time experience in marketing, communications, graphic design, public relations, or other relevant experience.
  • Experience as a news writer.
  • Experience in photography and shooting and editing video.
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong organizational skills and an ability to prioritize and complete simultaneous projects within deadlines.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook).
  • Knowledge or proficiency in Adobe Creative Cloud products including Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator, and Premiere a plus.
  • Demonstrated familiarity, knowledge and proficiency with varied technologies and platforms related to the role, including: Constant Contact, Monday.com, video production and editing, meeting management software including Microsoft Teams, Zoom, etc.
  • Successful completion of a background check.
  • A valid driver’s license and safe driving practices: travel expenses for approved business-related travel are provided but must have reliable means of transportation.
  • Ability to walk throughout campus and campus grounds and trails, lift up to thirty pounds, and be able to work sitting down or driving for long periods of time.

Preferred Qualifications:*

  • Experience with audio or multi-media production, communications or marketing project management, graphic design, writing, photography, print layout and design, print production, or social media design.
  • Experience managing brand-level social media accounts.

Knowledge of

  • Marketing strategies and communication principles.
  • Developing and cultivating positive stories to generate media interest.
  • The inner workings of the local, regional, and national press.
  • Media production, communication, and dissemination techniques and methods, including alternative ways to inform and entertain via written, oral, and visual media.
  • Crisis communication
  • Associated Press (AP) and APA Style.
  • Social media publishing and analytic tools.

Skill in

  • Public speaking and delivering presentations to individuals and groups.
  • Content creation, editing and proofreading.

  • Openly and directly communicate suggestions, ideas, thoughts and needs with supervisor and others.
  • Prioritize work assignments and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Work evenings, nights, and weekends as necessary.
  • Respond to other duties, as assigned
