JOB DESCRIPTION:

Assist the Superintendent of Recreation to ensure quality operations and management of programs/facilities in the Recreation Division and will lead the division in the absence of the superintendent. Directly oversees the Children’s Services, 50 Plus, Corporate and Community Wellness, and Registration Departments. Lead, train, and supervise staff to ensure all policies and procedures are followed and that excellent customer service and safety is provided to patrons. Ensure all staff have appropriate staff development opportunities and the support needed to do their jobs daily. Works with staff to ensure program viability and innovative offerings. Works will all division managers and departments to ensure consistent coordination of part time staff recruitment, hiring, retention, training, and discipline. Attends district-wide, board and staff meetings. Prepares information and advises the JCPRD Board on issues related to the Recreation Division, if needed. Works closely with appropriate cities and their park and recreation staff to ensure strong working relationships and partnerships. Develops and maintains program expertise by attending professional conferences and serving on professional committees, with the goal of providing leadership in the park and recreation community.

Days/Hours: Monday - Friday, 8:00 A.M. - 5:00 P.M. (evenings and weekends as necessary to support staff for events)

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree preferred in Recreation or related field. NRPA Certified Park and Recreation Professional (CPRP) or Certified Park and Recreation Executive (CPRE) preferred. Experience may be substituted for degree. Five (5) years of supervisory experience required. Five (5) years of experience at the management level of a large, multi-faceted, progressive park and recreation department or related agency. Five (5) years of programming or program management experience required.

Required Skills: Proven success in program management. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, mathematical and budgeting skills, knowledge of marketing and fee strategies. Adept at Microsoft Office Suite software. Willingness and ability to learn new software as needed. Ability to work on multiple priorities simultaneously. Skilled in customer service and conflict resolution. Leadership and supervisory skills, including teambuilding, motivation, delegation of duties, strategic planning, goal setting, and complex decision-making skills. Adept at public presentations and report preparation.
