Assistant Recreation / Community Life Director

SUMMARY:

Assists Director in planning and administering year-round diversified recreation and activities program for residents of all ages and interests with an emphasis on developing programs for the needs of the senior population; directly supervise the Parker Summer Camp Program.

This is responsible administrative work involving the use of mature judgment. The Assistant Recreation / Community Life Director works under the direction of the Recreation / Community Life Director and the Mayor. This position has a wide degree of authority supervising the Summer Camp program. Assists with senior transportation needs and other requests.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Implements programs and activities.
  • Prepares flyers for upcoming events.
  • Performs public relations functions as needed.
  • Enforces rules and regulations with Parker Staff.
  • Assists with implementing policies and procedures for departmental operation.
  • Plans and directs the work schedules of Parker Staff.
  • Interviews prospective job applicants with Director.
  • Assists with supervising the maintenance of the park and pavilion areas and all park equipment.
  • Assists with the inspection of recreation facilities and property and recommends repair or replacement of same.
  • Assures the safety and well being of program participants.
  • Handles Parker inquiries and complaints and refers to Director, if necessary.
  • Prepares and submits reports, Employee Performance Reviews and inventory requests.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Experience working with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and Outlook software)
  • Thorough knowledge of a Summer Camp Program.
  • Ability to organize and implement interesting and enjoyable games, programs and activities.
  • Ability to respond appropriately to emergency situations.
  • Ability to work special events, holidays, evenings and weekends if needed.
  • Ability to directly supervise staff.
  • Knowledge of administrative and office procedures.
  • Ability to direct and evaluate the work of others.
  • Courtesy and tact in dealing with staff, program participants and the general public.
  • Ability to perform the essential functions of the position.
  • Obtain and maintain a valid State of Ohio Driver’s License

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Three years of experience supervising staff in children’s programs preferred.
  • Recreation background or a Bachelor’s degree in Education preferred.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills and good common sense.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Trained in CPR, first aid, child abuse, and communicable disease a plus

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hand to finger, handle, feel objects or operate tools or machines, and to reach with hands and arms. The employee is frequently required to sit, stand, stoop, bend, kneel, talk, and hear. The employee is frequently required to walk, including climbing stairs, and to operate motor vehicles. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. The employee must occasionally lift and / or move objects weighing up to 25 pounds. The employee is frequently required to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.

Job Type: Part-time

Pay: $14.00 - $21.00 per hour

Education:

  • High school or equivalent (Preferred)

Experience:

  • Microsoft Excel: 1 year (Preferred)
