Duties and Responsibilities
The Assistant Dean of Graduate and Online Education will:
  • Lead and champion the continuation, growth, development, and quality of graduate and online programs at Loyola University Chicago School of Law
  • Align graduate and online education to achieve the Law School mission and Loyola University Chicago’s strategic plan
  • Oversee operations of all graduate and online programs and courses
  • Collaborate with all faculty, program directors, administrators, and other stakeholders serving and served by graduate and online programs and courses
  • Performs other duties as assigned.




1. Program Administration
a) Supervise the operations and personnel of the Graduate and Online Education office, including academic advisors and directors, instructional designers, enrollment assistants, and all other staff
b) Collaborate with other law school program directors and deans to develop and implement strategies that support, promote, and grow graduate and online educational programs at the School of law
c) Represent graduate and online programs when academic policies are developed and discussed; oversee implementation of policies impacting graduate and online programs
d) Represent Graduate Studies at administrative meetings and as needed at other university meetings and activities
e) Develop and manage budgets for online health, business, and compliance programs
f) Oversee all online programs events, including major annual conferences and competitions as well as student-run events
g) With Academic Directors, lead online programs strategic planning initiatives and curricular development
h) Develop new graduate and online programs or collaborations between existing graduate and online programs in coordination with other law school administrators

2. Prospect/Applicant/Enrollment and Retention Strategy and Oversight
a) Supervise Enrollment Advising staff, including Senior Enrollment Advisor and Enrollment Assistant, and guide and oversee recruiting strategies for graduate law programs
b) Guide and lead enrollment marketing efforts, including coordinating recruiting event and tradeshow strategy and planning, representing graduate law programs at recruiting events and tradeshows, developing strategic partnerships, and creating and approving admitted and prospective student communication flow strategy
c) Analyze enrollment and market trends; liaise with Senior Assistant Dean for Enrollment to develop strategies to increase enrollments
d) Oversee student retention in Health Law and Business Law Online Programs and develop improved strategies for student retention
e) Review graduate law MJ/LLM applications and approve all non-routine admissions requests, including calculating transfer credit, exemptions from requirements, etc.

3. Marketing and Communications
a) Serve as the Law School’s primary contact with Graduate & Professional Enrollment Management to develop marketing and advertising plans, education and promotional activities, electronic and print marketing pieces to build awareness and generate interest in graduate programs
b) Develop and manage marketing and recruiting budgets
c) Approve content for online and graduate programs website

4. Student Advising and Counseling
a) Work with students, faculty members, deans, and administrators to advance the university’s priorities and goals related to student success;
b) Provide guidance regarding student professional development and career resources and programming
c) Supervise creation and implementation of student success programming for Education Immersion Weekends
d) Oversee development and implementation of online student advising resources, Measure and develop initiatives for student satisfaction, including advisory board and surveys
e) Monitor online schedules and course enrollments and plan curriculum to maximize student success
f) Liaise with law school administration to handle student disciplinary matters and develop and implement student policies
g) Oversee and approve non-routine advising and student issues and, in collaboration with law school administration, act as final arbiter of academic graduate and online student grievances.
h) With academic directors, identify publication opportunities for students in consultation with student advising team, counsel students regarding capstone or thesis topic selection.

5. Quality Assurance and Community Activities
a) Oversee and provide guidance in addressing any accreditation standards or issues and discuss with university administration and program staff to assure compliance
b) With Academic Directors, monitor and review curriculum of programs and course development to improve and maintain quality and rigor
c) Monitor and analyze market changes to remain competitive in the field.
d) Build awareness for graduate and online education and enhance external relations, including leading and participating in symposia and conferences regarding graduate and online education
e) Oversee program outreach to alumni and collaborate with law school advancement to develop alumni programming

6. Teaching, Curricular Development, and Faculty Administration
a) Teach at least two courses per year in the online legal writing program.
b) With academic directors, recruit, supervise and provide annual reviews to adjunct faculty, update faculty handbook and policies, and provide course resources if needed.
c) With academic directors and faculty advisory board, oversee curricular updates to legal writing curriculum, including the legal writing course, and thesis and capstone projects.

Minimum Education and/or Work Experience
Masters degree and at least three to five years of progressively responsible experience in higher education administration required; teaching experience strongly preferred. Experience in developing structured learning objectives and applied curricula. The candidate should possess knowledge of higher education policies, curriculum, operations and procedures, particularly with regard to continuing and professional education. The ideal candidate will be conversant with group process and understand the role of Jesuit higher education.

Qualifications
  • Advanced degree and experience in legal education strongly preferred. JD degree desirable.
  • Experience in admissions and/or enrollment desirable.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and program management experience.
  • Prior experience with legal education, higher education enrollment or admissions, and marketing strongly preferred.

JD degree

Computer Skills
Detailed knowledge of Microsoft Office, database software, email programs and superior internet skills required. Familiarity with enrollment management and application systems.
