CenterPointe Hospital is a private, 150-bed psychiatric hospital that provides life-changing care for adolescents, adults, and senior adults. Inpatient and outpatient treatment are provided for a range of mental health and substance abuse disorders.

We are currently looking to fill the Assessment Counselor (Master Level). The hours for this position will be 7am to 7pm Saturday and Sunday and an additional day of 7a to 7p.

Job Summary:

The Assessment Counselor II & III is responsible for responding to inquiry calls, scheduling assessments, providing appropriate clinical screening of potential admissions, providing appropriate referrals and interfacing with Assessment and Referral staff/Physicians/Managed Care organizations/Insurance companies and the Business Office.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Receive inquiry calls and document pertinent information.
  • Attempt to schedule all callers for an assessment within 24 hours of inquiry call. If unable to schedule, provide appropriate referrals.
  • Maintain an assessment/COBRA log of all assessments, completed with disposition.
  • Provide information about patient after assessment to RN Supervisor who will be receiving the patient to facilitate a smooth transition
  • Notifies RN Supervisor of any patient who presents for triage and is considered medically compromised per triage screening.
  • Obtain the appropriate documents and records for patient.
  • Establish an effective relationship with customers, ensuring appropriate customer service is provided.
  • Facilitate hospital-to-hospital admissions assuring all are conducted according to facility, department, EMTALA regulations.
  • Educate patient and the patient’s support system on level of care/program/length of stay to provide support and assistance at time of admission.
  • As appropriate, provide clinical certification information to Managed Care Companies and/or Insurance companies.

Qualifications:

Education - Master's Degree from an accredited program in mental health, nursing, psychology, social work, or related field preferred or a minimum of an Associate Degree in Nursing.

Experience - Sufficient direct clinical experience in a psychiatric or mental health setting, with direct experience in patient assessment, family motivation, treatment planning, and communication with external review organizations of comparable entities.

Licensure - LCSW, LMFT, LPC, RN., or applicable clinical licensure as dictated by the State or equivalent required for Assessment Counselor III; clinical licensure eligible under supervisor for Assessment Counselor II within two years for LCSW, LMFT, or LPC; BS required for Counselor I. If nursing discipline, RN licensure is required.

Additional Requirements - CPR certification and Crisis Prevention (CPI) during orientation and prior to assisting in a restraining procedure. May require flexible hours and overtime.

Skills

  • Knowledge of assessment and referral techniques/procedures.
  • Knowledge of external review organizations (i.e., managed care, Medicare,

Medicaid)

  • Knowledge of patients’ rights, advanced directives, adult/ child abuse laws,

and emergency detention.

  • Strong leadership and negotiation skills
  • Effective communication in English, both verbally and in writing.
  • Basic computer knowledge
  • Knowledge of patient assessment, individual/family treatment methods, complex patient care planning, and treatment planning techniques.
  • Knowledge and utilization of crisis intervention techniques.
