Experience:

  • 2-5 years of relevant experience in transportation/utilities industry
  • Experience developing SQL queries and working with relational databases
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or related discipline
  • 1+ year experience with Python or other scripting language
  • Transportation scheduling/resource planning experience strongly preferred
  • 3+ years data analysis strongly preferred
  • Experience with transit industry standard tools (HASTUS; Trapeze; CAD/AVL, etc.) strongly preferred
  • Lean experience a plus
  • IT Change Management process

Key Accountabilities:
Develop Solutions

  • Provide strategic guidance to DS Director of Development & Digital Products on future of systems and platforms of responsibility
  • Oversee change management process within area of responsibility, especially regarding requirements specification, system testing.
  • Establish relationships with functional area of responsibility (Service Delivery) understanding the opportunities and value of the opportunities
  • Serve as the user’s advocate to Digital Solutions department
  • Act as the liaison between vendors, KCS Digital Solutions and KCS Departments keeping abreast with software upgrades and functional improvements of current software portfolio and industry trends
  • Drive toward established metrics, focusing especially on adoption of tools and removal of manual processes.
  • Create conceptual design solutions and driving design processes for area of expertise and overall KCS environment (style guides and standards)
  • Challenge established thinking and processes, discover new ways of approaching and providing solutions
  • Ability to manage projects following Project Management Institute guidelines as necessary – including project success metrics, inclusion, project tracking, documentation and reporting
  • Follow developed IT Change Management including ability to document changes, workflows and data flows as changes within systems occur
  • Support and assist in developing and managing the execution and documentation of business workflow processes
  • Provide references for users by writing and maintaining user documentation; assist in carrying out training where needed
  • Provide ad hoc and scheduled training as necessary
  • Other duties as assigned

Analytics

  • Propose and measure success metrics for projects and programs (rate of adoption, etc.)
  • Create and support analysis metrics for operations (e.g. on time performance, delays, etc.)
  • Design, support and test various data visualizations and reports requested by functional area
  • Ensure data integrity and logic of various data points
  • Measure use and value of existing systems within the business System Support
  • Tier 3 operations support 24x7x365 (as required)
  • Monitor and support integrations between various systems
  • Monitor system uptime and troubleshoot with various stakeholders to resolve issues

Other

  • Perform other duties as requested
  • Understand and ensure KCS compliance with MBTA Operating Agreement as is pertinent
  • Ensure KCS policies and procedures are adhered to in operations of the Commuter Rail
