Position Overview

The successful candidate will be a proactive team builder in the hog barn facility and provide support and direction to Members of the department. The Animal Handler/Receiver Team Leader will be expected to lead, motivate, and provide learning opportunities for Members to achieve professional animal handling, improve individual skills, and enhance teamwork. In addition, this Member will ensure compliance with safety, animal welfare, and sanitation requirements as well as function as a technical and business resource in areas of system operations and production requirements. This Member will work towards continuous improvement of hog barn operations by leading projects and initiatives; and establish and sustain effective relationships with all Members in order to foster an environment where innovation and cooperation are used to solve problems.


Responsibilities

    • Ensure Johnsonville animal welfare guidelines are met by all animal handlers by monitoring the proper handling of livestock on the premises. This includes completing humane handling feedback documentation.
    • Coach and guide Members through deliberate personal and professional development.
    • Lead a progressive disciplinary process whenever disciplinary action is needed.
    • Partner with scheduling, processing and harvest to determine daily run order and schedule which maximize processing efficiencies.
    • Manage budget and resource allocations for the hog barn.
    • Ensure that all livestock received into the facility are handled and held in accordance with USDA, NAMI, and Johnsonville animal welfare guidelines.
    • Effectively manage member schedules to ensure fair and equitable work hours and time off for all members.
    • Effectively conduct team meetings.
    • Complete daily production performance reports and shift paperwork.
    • Effectively communicate information to Members.
    • Identify and lead process improvement initiatives for the hog barn.
    • Create and promote a team environment, coach through conflict, and resolve interpersonal issues
    • Be a role model to all Members.
    • Ensure livestock lots are ready to accommodate plant schedule.
    • Ensure that all animals are inspected by USDA.
    • Lead initiatives and develop strategies to maximize profits. Identify concerns and opportunities professionally when dealing with internal and external customers.
    • Ensure the confidentiality of our business at all times.
    • Must complete in-house animal welfare training.
    • Other duties as assigned.

Education

  • High School Diploma or equivalent


General

This position involves working indoors and outdoors in all weather conditions. Conditions include exposure to moderate noise levels, odor and presence of animal blood. This position is exposed to wide variations in temperature.
