The Vivarium Animal Care Specialist maintains a clean, compliant and well-stocked facility to support preclinical gene therapy research. The Vivarium Animal Care Specialist works directly with and assists the Veterinary Technician and Vivarium Manager in Vivarium and animal related needs. This position requires significant animal handling that may result in sensitization to allergens or exacerbate pre-existing allergies. In light of this, Sarepta requests that individuals not apply for this position who have known allergies to rats and/or mice or animal dander generally. Individuals with allergies to any of the previously named species of animals may be deemed unsuitable for this job.
Primary Responsibilities Include:
  • Adhere to and strong understanding of standard operating procedures/guidelines regarding personnel and animal safety.
  • Perform husbandry tasks for animals including cage change and health monitoring under IACUC standards.
  • Perform physical environment housekeeping duties and production operations according to Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)
  • Communicate thoroughly and regularly with lab personnel and team members
  • Perform daily animal checks and treatments that promote animal welfare
  • Maintain cleanliness of facility
  • Maintain and performs proper documentation of activities
  • Assist in maintaining inventory of animal facility, including regular supply inventory.
  • Performs related job duties as required.
Desired Education and Skills:
  • High School diploma required
  • ALAT preferred, or ability to achieve ALAT status within 2 years
  • Laboratory animal experience preferred
  • Ability to strictly adhere to laboratory methods and SOPs.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with strong attention to detail.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to follow verbal instructions.
  • Ability to multi-task and prioritize shifting demands and workload.
  • Passionate about animal welfare.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Applications; Word, Excel, Outlook systems.
  • Must be able to work on rotating weekend/holiday schedule for vivarium coverage.
This position requires work on site at one of Sarepta’s facilities in the United States. Candidates should be aware that Sarepta currently maintains a policy requiring all US-based employees to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 in order to work on site. Newly hired employees must be vaccinated prior to their employment start date.
