AFVN Protected Harbor Resource & Data Development Job at AmeriCorps

AmeriCorps Miami, FL

According to the American Community Survey (ACS), in 2019, Lee and Collier Counties of Florida had an estimated total of 14,698 adults ages 18-64 with some type of cognitive disability. Many adults with cognitive, developmental or intellectual disabilities have only Social Security as income and live below the poverty level. Often, adults with these disabilities live at home with elderly parents, unable to access their communities in any age-appropriate, meaningful way. Protected Harbor, a 501(c)3 residential provider for adults with developmental disabilities, currently serves only 12 of those adults. Our programming ensures our residents live in a safe residential environment with 24-hour live-in support and access to medical services, recreational opportunities, day programming, and social events. Our goal is to serve 100 low-income adults with disabilities by December 2022 and expand each year after that. We wish to develop “natural supports” (unpaid supports) for our current and future customers as a path to friendships and connections to their communities. Please apply for the position if the listing is still live, even if the start date listed has passed.

Member Duties : The AmeriCorps VISTA will work to strengthen Protected Harbor's operating systems and procedures while building a robust volunteer network to serve low-income adults with intellectual disabilities in Southwest Florida. The VISTA will also design and implement a volunteer program for the organization to build capacity and assure long-term sustainability.
