JOB TITLE: AEROSPACE ENGINEER, LEAD MECHANICAL ENGINEER
DEPARTMENT: MECHANICAL ENGINEERING
REPORTS TO: CTO
CLASSIFICATION: EXEMPT
SALARY: $100,277.00

Job Summary:
Lead a team of Mechanical Engineer s in the mechanical design work for research, prototype development and integration into various payloads for aircraft or land-based applications.

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Confer with engineers, customers, and others to discuss existing or potential engineering projects and products.
  • Design, implement, maintain, and improve structural installations, equipment, components, products, and systems for commercial, industrial, and military purposes.
  • Operate computer-assisted engineering and design software and equipment to perform engineering tasks.
  • Plan method and sequence of installation/assembly for aircraft structural components.
  • Prepare project cost and work-time estimates.
  • Perform detailed calculations to compute and establish manufacturing, assembly, and installation standards and specifications.
  • Inspect completed installations and observe operations, to ensure conformance to design and equipment specifications and compliance with operational and safety standards.
  • Compile data and write reports regarding structural analysis for aircraft systems.
  • Draw or modify diagrams and write engineering specifications to clarify design details and functional criteria of experimental aircraft structural units.
  • Conduct inspections for quality control and assurance programs, reporting findings and recommendations.
  • Perform systems engineering functions as required.
  • Review existing mechanical engineering criteria to identify necessary revisions, deletions, or amendments to outdated material.
  • Plan method and sequence of operations for developing and testing experimental structural supports, protective coverings, mounting frames and environmental support equipment for various research projects.
  • Maintain an intermediate working level knowledge of the practices associated with NAVAIR guidelines for aircraft structural installations.
  • Maintain a basic working level knowledge of the practices associated with FAA guidelines for structural systems installations.
  • Perform other duties as are necessary and/or required.

Education and Experience:
Master s degree in Aerospace or Mechanical Engineering and at least 2 years of previous experience is required. Bachelor s degree in Aerospace or Mechanical Engineering and at least 7 years of previous experience in a similar role can be substituted.
