Our Advice Nurse openings are eligible for our sign on bonus of $1000 for full-time and $500 for part-time.

This hybrid position could be scheduled in clinic and/or remote based on business need. Responsible for phone triage, providing education of medical conditions and advice to families and patients. When in clinic also responsible for collaborating with clinic staff/providers to create care plans, assisting providers with in clinic procedures to include difficult blood draws and catheters and medical emergency response.

Essential Functions

  • Provide current and accurate advice for metro patients and families by telephone in a professional and courteous manner. Schedule follow-up appointments, as necessary, at all sites.
  • Provide onsite triage for provider in the clinic, based on business needs.
  • Assist provider with clinical procedures when necessary and collaborate to create a plan of care for each patient.
  • Update Electronic Medical Record (EMR) with relevant information.
  • Present educational topics to patients, families, and peers.
  • Maintain confidentiality of sensitive patient information at all times.
  • Maintain exceptional patient relations, responding to inquiries, concerns, and complaints from parents or families.
  • Meet or exceed ER follow-up benchmark, and participate in other quality measures, as assigned.
  • Provide backup coverage for staff as needed, administering vaccinations, and rendering treatment for pediatric patients.
  • Successfully work in a fast-paced, changing environment with effective time management and ability to multitask and prioritize workload.
  • Participate in site-specific and clinic-wide initiatives on an ongoing basis.
  • Contribute to team effort by accomplishing related goals and results as needed.
  • Attend and actively participates in huddles and team meetings, remote or in clinic as needed.
  • Display high standards of office conduct.
  • Punctual, regular, timely, and dependable attendance.

Secondary Functions

  • Participate in training a new employee when applicable.
  • Other duties as assigned by manager.

Specific Job Skills

  • Excellent professional interpersonal, communication, telephone, customer service, time-management, problem-solving, and decision-making skills are essential.
  • Ability to be self-motivated and efficient in a WFH or hybrid work environment, meeting any productivity targets.
  • Pediatric care knowledge for advice and triage.
  • Ability to write SOAP (Subjective, Objective, Assessment, and Plan) notes.
  • Knowledge of community resources for patients with complex medical issues.
  • Current clinical knowledge and presentation, teaching, and mentoring skills.
  • Ability to perform basic math.
  • Ability to conduct ongoing interpersonal interactions and analyze and solve problems.
  • Ability to actively participate in team development and team-oriented processes.
  • Working experience using computer hardware/software required.
  • Fluent English.

Job Scope

Performs duties in a hybrid position both in Clinic/Remote with minimal supervision, operating from established and well-known procedures. Decisions are based on regular and recurring work situations. Mistakes and/or errors may result in directly affecting patient care, disrupting scheduled patient flow, holding up insurance billing, causing poor patient relations, and/or damage to patient care services, all of which can have negative financial implications for the organization.

Job Conditions

Working conditions include working with others in a team setting and frequent interruptions. Other working conditions include extensive phone and computer work. When WFH, entire shift will be phone/computer work.

Interpersonal Contacts

This position has both internal and external contacts. The most common internal contacts are with own site staff and supervisor. The most frequent external contacts are with patients and families. Both types of interactions involve information exchange and extensive problem solving. The majority of contact with external customers takes place over the telephone. At least 90% of all contacts are with external customers while 10% are with non-customers or internal customers.

Education/ Experience

  • Current LPN License in the State of Oregon required for LPN. Other will be considered upon review.
  • Degree from an accredited nursing program.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in a family practice or pediatric clinical setting, preferably giving advice and performing triage.
  • Previous experience using Barton Schmitt Pediatric Protocols preferred.
  • Current CPR certification required.
  • PALS or PEARS certification preferred.
  • Understanding of clinic workflow required.
  • Experience with Electronic Medical Records.
