Summary of Work


Performs a variety of high-level, complex office support, clerical, and administrative duties associated with nonpartisan legislative office services, including extensive software skills in adapting software to particular office needs-preparation, modification, retrieval, proofreading, and storage of office documents; assists as backup receptionist; and performs other duties as directed. Hours are generally Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. During a legislative session (January-April of odd numbered years) the working hours involve some shift work, evenings, weekends, and paid overtime.

Duties and Tasks


Essential Skills and Abilities:

  • Determine and maintain confidentiality.
  • Remain objective and nonpartisan regarding all legislative matters.
  • Knowledge and experience in computer software and related applications proficiency are essential (i.e. Microsoft Office Suite programs, Adobe, etc.)
  • Proofread and correct prepared documents for correct grammar, spelling, punctuation, format, and sentence structure.
  • Communicate effectively in both written and oral form.
  • Demonstrate strong interpersonal skills.
  • Work under frequent pressure of deadlines.
  • Apply office procedures to work situations.
  • Develop, design, and type newsletters, brochures, and reports (desktop publishing).
  • Willingness to learn new software and features.
  • Ability to shift frequently from one project to another.
  • Ability to focus on multiple tasks and ensure high-quality work products at all times.
  • Knowledge of correct English usage, grammar, spelling, punctuation, and legal and legislative terminology.

Minimum Qualifications


At least 3 years of experience that can be demonstrated to result in the possession of the abilities, knowledge, and skills necessary to perform the duties of this position. Bachelor's or Associate's degrees or related college level course work may be substituted for up to 2 years.


Salary:

$42,000 and up - depending on experience and qualifications.
