The Naval Nuclear Laboratory comprises the U.S. Department of Energy locations and personnel responsible for developing advanced naval nuclear propulsion technology, providing technical support to ensure the safety and reliability of our nation’s naval nuclear reactors, and training the Sailors who operate those reactors in the U.S. Navy’s submarines and aircraft carrier Fleets. The Naval Nuclear Laboratory includes the Bettis and Knolls Atomic Power Laboratories, the Kenneth A. Kesselring Site, and the Naval Reactors Facility which have proudly supported the nation since 1946. The Naval Nuclear Laboratory has nearly 8,000 employees working at primary locations in Pennsylvania, New York, South Carolina, and Idaho. The Naval Nuclear Laboratory also has an established presence at numerous shipyards and vendor locations around the globe. Job Description

The Naval Nuclear Laboratory is seeking an experienced Administrative Assistant to join our Knolls Radiological, Environmental, & Safety Department! Typical administrative functions include:


  • Establishing, tracking, and driving commitments to closure; screening phone calls from senior NNL, DOE and external regulators
  • Receiving/directing visitors to proper technical area
  • Office management including all aspects of equipment maintenance and ordering office supplies
  • Responsible for management of Department travel budget including arranging travel, tracking budget, and requests for increased funding
  • Filing
  • Mail processing/screening correspondence
  • Scheduling meetings
  • Managing calendar of senior managers in Department
  • Support of site Emergency Control Center Director
  • Support Radiological Controls Technician qualification program travel and coordination
  • Support KLS Directorate AA virtual tool
  • Work and team effectively with Site Director and Department Administrative Assistants

Required Combination of Knowledge and Skill

  • High school diploma or equivalent and a minimum of eight years of relevant experience or;
  • Associate degree in a related field from an accredited college or university and a minimum of four years of relevant experience or;
  • Bachelor degree in a related field from an accredited college or university and a minimum of two years of relevant experience

  • Ability to utilize extensive knowledge and judgment to respond to inquires on behalf of management whenever possible.
  • Strong customer interface skills dealing with challenging situations.
  • Ability to develop and implement creative solutions to complex administrative problems.
  • Ability to lead and comprehend the compliance business area in order to provide response to inquiries or properly direct.
  • Ability to review compliance related correspondence for proper work quality.
  • Support emergency preparedness public affairs.
  • Support Site Director's AA on Laboratory level functions as requested.
  • Manage Department fee budget.
  • Utilize monies to establish, plan, and coordinate employee engagement activities for Department.
