Statement of the Job:

University of Maine at Fort Kent is seeking to hire a full time temporary Academic Advisor & Student Success Specialist. This person will assist students in making informed decisions about academic matters by providing advice on programs, registration, and related topic areas. The Academic Advisor & Student Success Specialist, working closely with the faculty, will identify, assess, advise, support and case manage new and continuing students deemed at-risk for the purpose of improving student performance and institutional retention through target interventions. This position is part of the Academic Advising and Student Success team.


The salary for this temporary one year position is $41,400 plus a 10% employer contribution to the UMS retirement plan. Additional benefits include medical, dental, vision, and tuition waiver programs for employees and dependents. The UMS is a recipient of the Wellness Councils of America’s Well Workplace Award and offers wellness programs.

Qualifications:

Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree, preferably in counseling, or a related field.
  • Experience working in higher education.
  • Strong customer service and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills; organizational skills, and attention to detail.
  • Knowledge and skill with technology including computer software programs for data collection, decision-making, and communication.

Preferred:

  • Master’s degree, preferably in counseling, or a related field.
  • Experience working with first generation and at risk student populations.
  • Experience in a college or university within an academic advising or counseling setting.
