3rd SHIFT PLASTICS QUALITY TECHNICIAN

SUMMARY

The Quality Assurance Technician tests and inspects products at various stages of production process and compiles and evaluates statistical data to determine and maintain quality and reliability of products by performing the following duties.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Interprets engineering drawings, schematic diagrams, or formulas and confers with management or engineering staff to determine quality and reliability standards.
  • Develops and initiates standards and methods for inspection, testing, and evaluation. This includes advanced quality planning documents, forms and instructions for recording, evaluating, and reporting quality and reliability data.
  • Prepares and evaluates Production Part Approval Process documents for customers and suppliers.
  • Assures the Lot Traceability program is effective, and the program requirements are complied with.
  • Communicates with customers and suppliers (including corrective action reports). Maintains file of related correspondence.
  • Participates in defect / scrap reduction activities.
  • Assists in the purchase of Quality Assurance supplies and equipment.
  • Maintains current product drawing files, standards, and related documents.
  • Establishes gage calibration procedures. Recalls gages for calibration at a predetermined time period (includes coordination with outside laboratories if required). Assures that gages are calibrated identified and gage records are updated and placed on file.
  • Maintains records of, and controls disposition of "Hold for Inspection" (discrepant) items.
  • Compiles and writes training material and conducts training sessions on quality control activities.
  • Selects products for tests at specified stages in production process, and tests products for variety of qualities such as dimensions, performance, and mechanical, electrical, or chemical characteristics.
  • Monitors the SPC program on a continuing basis for adherence to its underlying principles and concepts. Performs process and machine capability studies as needed.
  • Records test data, applying statistical quality control procedures.
  • Evaluates data and writes reports to validate or indicate deviations from existing standards.
  • Recommends modifications of existing quality or production standards to achieve optimum quality within limits of equipment capability.
  • Sets up and performs destructive and nondestructive tests on materials, parts, or products to measure performance, life, or material characteristics.
  • Maintains quality records in a orderly manner.
  • Maintains use and care of safety equipment and procedures in the quality control laboratory.
  • Other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

  • Associate degree (A. A.) or equivalent from an accredited two-year college or technical school; or six months to one-year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Must be fluent in English. Able to write routine reports and correspondence. Able to communicate effectively with peers, managers, and directors, and to present to groups of customers or employees of the organization. Values and considers the perspectives and backgrounds of all parties.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to apply advanced mathematics as typically taught during a two-year college or university course.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete or abstract variables in standard and non-standard situations. Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret and explain policies and procedures.

OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
  • Working knowledge of MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint Working knowledge of MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint.
  • Excellent attendance record.

While performing the duties of this job, regularly required to stoop, kneel, sit, stand, bend, reach, climb, and move about the facility. Required to frequently lift up to 30 lbs.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, depth perception, peripheral vision and ability to adjust focus.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

The environment will vary in this position based on assignments. When working in the office environment, noise is generally minimal.

The environment in manufacturing plants and testing labs are often loud, hot, and with particulates in the air. Working environment may contain potentially hazardous materials such as acids, solvents, oils, and common etchants. In such environments, adherence to PPE regulations is required.

OVERTIME

Employees must be able to work additional hours and/or additional days during the payroll week, which can and will be in excess of forty (40) hours per payroll week.

TRAVEL

Domestic/international travel with/without overnight stay may be required.
